The mission of MERDCI’s DSP Group is to develop DSP algorithms for implementation on commercially-available DSP platforms and provide hardware and software solutions for applications involving DSP. These may include general communication applications, such as novel implementation of modems and communication protocol controllers, as well as data, audio and video processing solutions. The Group works in close cooperation with application groups, the Digital VLSI Group and the Analog Group to provide complete system solutions based on a combination of hardwired logic, DSP-based structures, mixed-signal blocks and microcode.
Application areas include design and implementation of DSP hardware and software. For each target application, the Group tries to find the most optimum solution, considering a number of design constraints and cost considerations. A top-down design methodology followed by a trade-off between various architectural constructs which are evaluated before implementation. Depending on market size, cost constraints and performance requirements, partitioning schemes may involve a combination of commercially-available DSP platforms, commercially-available components, FPGA implementation, hardwired logic, mixed-signal blocks, DSP-based structures and the associated microcode.
